UAE Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum attended a ceremony this evening marking the graduation of the 10th batch of graduates from Zayed University (both Abu Dhabi and Dubai branches).
Also present at Rashid Hall in the Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC) to witness the 580 students graduate were Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Fujairah His Highness Sheikh Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, Dubai Crown Prince Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Fujairah Crown Prince Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research and the president of Zayed University Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, other sheikhs, dignitaries and family members of the graduates.
The ceremony began shortly after the arrival of Sheikh Mohammed who stood for a rendition of the national anthem.
Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan delivered an address in which he welcomed Sheikh Mohammed and thanked him for patronising and honouring the graduation ceremony with his presence. Sheikh Nahyan also welcomed the Ruler of Fujairah, Sheikh Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, thanking the UAE's leaders, headed by President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, for their care and attention for higher education in the UAE and their support for Zayed University.
Following Sheikh Nahyan's speech, Sheikh Mohammed's graduating daughter, Sheikha Maryam bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, delivered a speech on behalf of the graduates. She briefed the audience about Zayed University, whose name is associated with the founder of the UAE, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. After pledging to repay the UAE's leaders for their kindness, she expressed her gratitude for their support of education in the country.
Sheikha Maryam paid tribute to Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Chairman of the UAE General Women's Union, and Sheikha Fatima bint Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum for their guidance, as well as the university's administration and teaching staff.
After that Khawla Al Ali delivered a poem in which she paid tribute to Sheikh Mohammed for supporting the university.
Concluding the ceremony, Sheikh Mohammed, flanked by Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak, distributed the certificates to the graduates, congratulating them on their success and urging them to continue in their pursuit of knowledge.
Sheikh Mohammed praised the high standards set by Zayed University and its dedication towards keeping abreast of the latest developments in science and technology. He also commended Sheikh Nahyan's efforts and his continuous support for higher education in the UAE.
Sheikh Mohammed then received the university's shield from his daughter, Sheikha Maryam, after which he unveiled a photograph of himself and his father, the late sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum, presented by the university.
